our story

GranBrazil is a locally owned, family-operated business led by father-and-daughter team Daryl Detmer and Amanda Detmer-Leary. The inspiration for GranBrazil began more than 20 years ago with Daryl's late wife, Rejane, who was born and raised in Brazil. Daryl and Rejane met by chance in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil while they were both vacationing there in their early twenties. Although they didn't speak each other's language, Daryl managed to ask Rejane on a date — and despite the language barrier, they had a wonderful time together. 

After Rejane returned to her hometown in Brazil, Daryl decided to extend his stay and traveled to visit her again, wanting to spend as much time together as possible before returning to the United States. Their connection continued to grow, and after Daryl returned back home, they stayed in touch through long-distance phone calls. Determined to make their relationship work, Daryl committed himself to learning Portuguese, memorizing five new words every day. Just four months later, he returned to Brazil with enough confidence in the language to communicate with Rejane and her family. During that visit, he proposed. A few months later, Rejane moved to the United States, and the two were married.

Several years later, Rejane introduced Daryl to Brazil’s natural stone industry and the idea of starting a business focused on countertop fabrication and installation. At the time, granite countertops were still relatively uncommon in the area, but Daryl saw an opportunity. He imported his first container of granite slabs from Brazil and began fabricating and installing countertops while continuing to work his full-time job. As demand for natural stone countertops grew, so did the business. What started as a small side venture quickly became a full-time family business, and in 2002, GranBrazil was officially established.

Today, we proudly import premium granite, quartzite, quartz, and marble from Brazil, Italy, Vietnam, and more. With expert fabrication, precision installation, and more than two decades of experience, we've helped thousands of homeowners, builders, designers, contractors, and businesses create beautiful spaces with countertops built to last.
