About Granite
Granite is a natural igneous rock formed deep within the earth’s crust from slowly cooled magma. This process creates a stone that is incredibly hard, dense, and durable, making granite one of the most reliable and long-lasting materials for countertops and other surfaces. Each slab of granite is unique, featuring rich natural colors and varying patterns that can’t be replicated. Its natural strength and resistance to scratches, heat, and weathering make it a favorite among homeowners, builders, and interior designers alike.
Granite vs. Quartzite – What's the Difference?
While both granite and quartzite are natural stones, they are formed through entirely different geological processes. Granite is an igneous rock created from cooled magma, while quartzite is a metamorphic rock formed when sandstone rich in quartz is subjected to intense heat and pressure.
These differences in formation also affect their appearance. Granite typically features a more speckled or granular look, often with visible flecks of various minerals. Quartzite, on the other hand, tends to showcase dramatic veining, rich color variations, and a depth that closely resembles natural gemstones. Both granite and quartzite are exceptionally durable, dense, and resistant to heat and scratching, making them ideal choices for kitchen countertops, bathroom vanities, and other high-traffic areas.
